: Ethics approval for the study has been obtained from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, School of Public Health (MakSPH), the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology Research (UNCST) (ref. nr. HS3144ES), and the Regional Committees for Medical and Health Research Ethics (ref. nr. 655421) in Norway. Administrative approval is sought at national, regional, and local levels. Important protocol modifications will be reported to each of the ethical committees. The collaboration will have to deal with complex ethical considerations and will handle them according to the Good Clinical Practice and Helsinki declaration, and further seek advice outside the Consortium for a full appreciation of potential ethical dilemmas.
