: Ethical approval before starting this trial was granted by the Mbale Regional Referral Hospital Research Ethics Committee (MRRH-REC OUT 002/2019), while regulatory approval was granted from the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology (UNCST) (HS965ES) and the National Drug Authority (NDA) (CTC 0166/2021). Written informed consent was obtained from the parents or guardians of all participating children, ensuring full compliance with ethical guidelines for research involving human subjects.
