Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval for the CCA mapping survey was granted by Ministry of Health in Burundi and the Institutional Review Board of Imperial College London (St Mary Research Ethics Committee of Imperial College, UK, 2003 /EC No 03.36, R&D No: 03/SB/003E, amended in 2007 /REC Ref: AM01, May 2007). Written informed consent for the survey, performed as part of the national schistosomiasis control program, was obtained from the head teacher in each school. Children were informed of the purpose and benefits of the survey and verbal informed consent for participation was obtained. Children were free to withdraw from the survey at any point without consequence.
