Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Before the start of the study, meetings were held in the three study villages to inform the inhabitants on the purpose of the study and to obtain their cooperation. Prior to the interviews, oral informed consent was sought and obtained from all adults, and from parents or guardians of individuals less than 18 years-old. Ethical approval for the study was provided by the Medical Research Coordinating Committee of the National Institute for Medical Research, Tanzania for a large study monitoring LF control in Tanga Region, Tanzania (NIMR/HQ/R.8a/Vol.IX/1044).
