: This blinded, randomised, single centre, placebo controlled, laboratory efficacy study was performed in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Study procedures were in accordance with the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) guidelines for evaluating the efficacy of parasiticides for the treatment, prevention and control of flea and tick infestations on cats and dogs [CitationRef removed], and complied with the principles of good clinical practices (GCP) [CitationRef removed]. The protocol was reviewed and approved by the local ClinVet Committee for Animal Ethics and Welfare (CCAEW), and authorised the study site to conduct the investigation. Members of the CCAEW had the authority to inspect the study site and the animals at all times. The accommodation complied with the South African National Standard SANS 10386:2008 “The care and use of animals for scientific purposes” recommendations.
