Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This paper analyses data collected in a previous epidemiology study conducted by Dunn et al. 2016. All analyses were conducted using fully anonymised data. Ethical approval for the epidemiology study was granted by the Imperial Research Ethics Committee (ICREC ref 15IC2667) and the Department of Medical Research (DMR) Ethics Review Committee, Myanmar. Further ethical approval was obtained to ship samples back to the UK and to perform qPCR (ICREC ref 17IC4249). In the original study, an informed consent form signed by each adult participant (above 18 years old), by parents/guardians on behalf of their children (under 18 years old) and an assent form was signed by all children aged 10–17 years old. All study participants were offered albendazole treatment regardless of their disease status. All community members not in the study were treated as usual during the government led MDA campaigns. Participants were reminded that they were free to leave the study at any time and that leaving the study would not affect their access to usual MDA treatment or other health services.
