: All collection procedures were performed solely for the dog’s benefit and for standard diagnostic purposes. Written informed consent was obtained from all owners of the dogs. No anesthesia or euthanasia was required in any part of the study. All procedures complied with the European legislation on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (Directive 2010/63/EU) and with the ethical requirement of the Italian law (Decreto legislativo 4 March 2014, n. 26). Accordingly, our study did not require authorization or an identification (ID) protocol number.
