: Ethical committees of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (CoVAB), Makerere University, Uganda (ref. VAB/REC/14/101) and the National Council of Science and Technology (ref. HS 1621) approved the study. Participation was voluntary and written consent was obtained from pig owners. Pigs recruited in the study were treated against tungiasis using Supona®, an aerosol with proven efficacy against tungiasis [] on termination of the study until all lesions were cleared. In addition, participating households were handled anonymously and utmost confidence was strictly adhered to since T. penetrans infections amongst humans in households are associated with stigma.
