Animal studies were carried out in compliance with national and international laws and policies (Italian Legislative Decree 116/1992, and 26/2014 that transposed the EU Directive 86/609, and 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes) and were authorised by the Italian Ministry of Health (Decr. Min. number 60/2009-B, Decr. Min. number 214/2013-B, and Decr. Min. number 561/2017-PR).
