: For primary cell isolation, healthy human BM samples were donated from Instituto Português de Oncologia Francisco Gentil (Lisbon), while UCB units were originally obtained from Hospital São Francisco Xavier, Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental (CHLO, Lisbon). Both donations were covered by collaboration agreements between the medical centers and the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). Samples were collected from healthy donors, after obtaining written informed consent, following Directive 2004/23/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 st March 2004 regarding standards of quality and safety for the donation, procurement, testing, processing, preservation, storage, and distribution of human tissues and cells (Portuguese Law 22/2007, 29th June), with approval from the Ethics Committee of the respective clinical institution.
