: All work with mice was done under protocols approved by a local institutional animal care and use committee (IACUC; bluebird bio (now known as Genetix Biotherapeutics). Alternatively, all work with mice was done under protocols approved by the UCLA Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Mouse work was performed according to the animal research committee (ARC) protocol number 2008 − 167. The title of the approved project at UCLA was “Analysis of gene transfer and expression in human hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells by growth in immune deficient mice (Mice)” under the Protocol ARC-2008-167 (last Approval Period from 03/11/2025 through 12/04/2026). The title of the approved project at bluebird bio (now known as Genetix Biotherapeutics) was “Murine Stem Cell Engraftment Models” under the IACUC protocol 00214 (originally approved on September 1 st, 2017). Mice were purchased from The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME.
