: For this study, the piglets were used for meat production and were not subjected to any experimental treatment, diagnostic sampling, or other intervention prior to slaughter, so no specific ethical approval was required. Animal handling as well as the slaughter was in accordance with the approved guidelines for safeguarding good scientific practice at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) and with the guidelines regarding the protection of animals used for experimental and other scientific purposes in the European Communities Council Directive (86/609/EEC).
