: No special permissions were mandatory for the cutting of plants as the regions were not in private possession or secure in any way and the field studies did not encompass endangered or protected species. Guidelines for the maintenance and consumption of laboratory animals (NIH publications no. 80-23; 1996) were followed to conduct the animal experiments.
