The protocol was approved by appropriate ethics committee (Ethics committee of the French Intensive Care Society (SRLF) on October 6, 2011, and by the Ethics Committee for the Protection of Patients (CPP Ouest 2) in Angers, France, on June 11, 2012; number 2012-A00405-38/2012-08). As this was an ancillary study of the HYPERION trial without additional data, no other approval was required.
