: The study proposal was submitted to the Ghana Health Service Ethics Review Committee for review and approval before commencement of data collection (approval no. GHS-ERC023/01/19). Permission was also sought from the Western Regional Health Directorate, Sekondi-Takoradi metropolitan health directorate and the heads of the hospitals and units. Written informed consent was obtained from all participants. In the case of those mothers aged below 18 years, their mothers/relatives who accompanied them to the health facility consented for them and they themselves gave assent to participate in the study.
