: Ethical approval was given by the University of Cape Town Human Research Ethics Committee (094/2017) and the Western Cape Provincial Health Research & Ethics Committee (WC_2017RP39_880), as well as the ethics committees at each of the hospitals. De-identified data from the SBIRT service was used for the quantitative analyses and thus informed consent was not required.
