Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical clearance was obtained from the Ethical Review Committee of School of Biomedical and Laboratory Sciences, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Gondar with Ref. No SBMLS/62/5/09 Letter of co-operation was given to Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital prior to data collection. After explaining the purpose and objective of the study, informed consent was obtained from each woman. Any woman who was not willing to participate in the study was not forced to participate. All data obtained were kept confidential by using codes and no personal identifiers were used. Blood samples collected were used only for the purpose of the study. The laboratory results were communicated to their attending physicians for appropriate intervention.
