: The study was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki [CitationRef removed]. The study was approved by the local data protection officer (2013/9352) and the regional ethical committee of Western Norway approved the waiver of informed consent (2013/1305). All patients treated with antibiotics received an information leaflet at the ward about the study and provided the opportunity to withdraw from the study.
