Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The study protocol was reviewed and approved by the ethical review board of the College of health sciences of Mekelle University. We obtained written informed consent from the adult study participants in each household. Assent was also obtained from participants younger than 18 years of age. During the tracing day, patients who were found still sick were immediately referred to the closest health facility. Patients’ name was not written on the questionnaire, and all personal information provided was kept confidentially. Non-adherent patients during the study period were advised to return to the health facilities for a new assessment to avoid negative consequences from incomplete treatment.
