: The study protocol was approved by the institutional review board of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM IRB 1409/20), the national ethical committee for health research in Burkina Faso (CERS n°2020-8-179), the local ethics committee of University of Parakou, Benin (0428/CLERB-UP/P/SP/R/SA) and the ethics committee of the School of Public Health of the University of Kinshasa, DRC (ESP/CE/155/2020). At all study sites, approval by the hospital management (written) and supervisors of wards (oral) was obtained. A formal informed consent form was included in the digital questionnaire: to be able to fill in the survey, participants had to tick “yes” to confirm consent after having read the survey’s explanation.
