: Participation in CPE surveillance at participating hospitals is considered to be quality improvement through the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program and within the mandate of hospital infection prevention and control programs and does not constitute human research. As surveillance did not involve any alteration in patient care and there were no patient identifiers collected, ethics approval and institutional research board approval were not needed.
