: The NIH Office of Human Subjects Research Protections determined that this post-mortem study was exempt from the requirement of Institutional Review Board approval. Post-mortem tissues from clinically diagnosed and neuropathologically verified donors with PD as well as from controls were provided by the Banner Sun Health Research Institute (Sun City, AZ, USA) under an approved Material Transfer Agreement (MTA). At the NIH, approval of an MTA requires clearance by the Ethics Office of the relevant Institute. Informed consent for autopsy and the use of the tissues for scientific research was given by the next of kin.
