: Ethical approval for the study regarding aflatoxins was obtained from the National Health and Science Research Committee of Malawi (Approval Number NHSRC 773). Additionally, consent to participate in the studies by farmers was sought prior to engagement by all participants in surveys, on-farm trialling and training. In the case of extension workers, approval was sought from their employer, through their nomination and or engagement in the research activities.
