: The experiment was designed according to the guidelines of the current European Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. All procedures and treatments followed the European Directive (Council Directive 98/58/EC) on the minimum standards for the protection of animals bred or kept for farming purposes. The trial was approved by the Bioethical Committee of the University of Turin, Italy (protocol number 0059643). The handling and care of cannulated cows and the ruminal fluid sampling to estimate digestibility were conducted under the approval of the Ethics Committee of the University of Milan and with the authorization no. 79/2022-PR of the Italian Ministry of Health.
