: This article does neither contain any studies with human participants nor vertebrate animals or cephalopods nor regulated invertebrates performed by any of the authors. This study was exempt from ethical approval procedures according to the current Slovenian and Austrian legislation. No authorization is needed for the supply of the kind of animals used in this research. All procedures involving animals were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutions (University of Vienna, Austria, and National Institute of Biology, Slovenia) at which the jellyfish samples were processed. This study did not involve endangered or protected species (according to the IUCN red list of threatened species, 02/11/2019: ExternalRef removed). The sampling of jellyfish did not occur within privately owned or protected areas. For jellyfish sampling, handling, and processing, we implemented required principles of replacement (no live animals were be used in the proposed research), reduction (the number of animals was reduced to the minimum), and refinement (care was taken to reduce suffering and distress of animals). In terms of genetic information obtained within the project, all data was handled in accordance with Nagoya protocol guidelines. ExternalRef removed.
