: Human studies. Adult peripheral blood, cord blood and placental tissues were obtained for quantification of CECs according to our previous reports [, ]. The human ethics at the University of Alberta approved these studies. Similarly, cord blood was collected from full-term and pre-term deliveries under Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Institutional review board (IRB) approved protocols (Pro00046080 and Pro00063463).
