The research protocol was reviewed and approved by the Research Ethics Board of the Master’s Program in Infectious and Zoonotic Diseases, School of Microbiology, from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (CEI-MEIZ), under Protocol No. 02—2022 (valid 16 September 2022 to 16 September 2024). All participants, or the parents/legal guardians of minors, provided informed consent prior to enrollment, and oral assent was obtained from children according to age-appropriate procedures. No part of the study involved human tissues beyond stool samples provided voluntarily by participants.
