: The manufacturer of the devices tested and compared here (Innovasea) loaned two NexTrak devices for our study in 2023. One of the co-authors (D.M. Webber) was formerly employed as a scientist with Innovasea and retired during the study period. He is a long-time collaborator of the authors of this study and is now directly affiliated with the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station. D.M. Webber’s involvement in the present study was due to his scientific expertise and unrelated to any commercial goals of Innovasea. All other authors have no competing interests to declare.
