: IRB approval was not required for this study given it relied on publicly available social media posts and has maintained the anonymity of users. Ethical guidance on social media research suggests that use of social media data does not require further review or explicit consent if users are posting in a situation in which they could be “reasonably expect to be observed by strangers” (British Psychological Society, 2009; Townsend & Wallace, 2016). Extra considerations were taken to protect potentially vulnerable individuals by removing all users who self-identified as minors from the data.
