: The qualitative elements of the research have been approved by the research ethics process of the University of Kent (Application Ref: 0780b), with endorsement from the relevant committees of the universities of Sheffield and Loughborough, and the Open University. All participation in interviews and focus groups will be on the basis of informed consent. Ethics approval for the quantitative outcome assessment described under work package 3, including data sharing and linkage, has been given by the Cambridge South NHS research ethics committee (IRAS project ID: 326555). This includes approval of our process to access, link and analyse data that is held in the Police National Computer and Health Episodes Dataset without the specific consent of participants.
