: Ethical approval for all experimental protocols was granted by the Zanzibar Health Research Ethical Committee on the 7th of September 2021 (Ref: NO. ZAHREC/03/SEP/2021/21). All methods were carried out in accordance with the Ethical Committee’s guidelines and regulations. Informed consent was obtained from all participants, either by signature or ink thumb print. Patients who were detected to have severe mental illness or suicidal ideation and those that did not meet the eligibility criteria of the study were referred to Kidongo Chekundu Hospital or other district hospitals for appropriate mental health care. Patients who participated in the study and who screened positive for CMDs were all monitored and offered appropriate care after the study terminated.
