: The animal studies were conducted according to the guidance of the National Institutes of Health’s Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (NRC, 2011) and approved by the Campus Research and Ethics Committee of the University of the West Indies for animal experimentation (No. CREC-SA.0072/11/2019).The plant was collected with the permission of the Forestry Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Trinidad and Tobago, and identified at the National Herbarium of Trinidad and Tobago, Department of Life Sciences, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad, and Tobago, and voucher specimen (No. TRIN 50,648) was preserved.
