:
: The sampling was conducted on whales that had been caught off western Iceland (Denmark Strait) during commercial whaling operations conducted by the Icelandic whaling company Hvalur H/F under legal national permits and inspection. The transnational shipment was also made strictly attaching to the legal requirements. Thus, export/import licenses were obtained from the respective Icelandic and Spanish authorities and the samples transported under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
