Ethics approval and consent to participate
: All cases used in this study were from ethically-approved longitudinally-assessed regional brain donor programs on neurodegenerative diseases. All procedures were performed under protocols approved by the New York University Alzheimer Disease Center, NY, the South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Local Health District and the Universities of New South Wales and Sydney, Australia.
: In all cases, written informed consent for research and publication was obtained from the patient or legal guardian, and the material used had appropriate ethical approval for use in this project. All patients’ data and samples were coded and handled according to NIH and NHMRC guidelines to protect patients’ identities.
