: Brain tissue analysis: brain samples obtained from the NBB, Netherlands lnstitute for Neuroscience, Amsterdam (NBB; Ref. No. 2009/148, open access: ), had been collected from donors that had provided written informed consent for the use of autopsy material and clinical information for research purposes. The study was performed in accordance with local regulations and approved by the medical research ethics committee of the UMCU (reference number 17–092). The use of autopsy materials from the Radboudumc was approved by the local ethics committee (reference number 2015–2215). The Neurobiobank of the Institute Born-Bunge (NBB-IBB) with FAMHP registration ID BB190113 is subject to biannual evaluation by the local Ethics Committee of University hospital Antwerp (UZA)/University of Antwerp (UAntwerp), Belgium, approval reference 19/13/166. Samples were used anonymously in accordance with the Code of Conduct of the Federation of Medical Scientific Societies in The Netherlands. Body fluid analysis: all participants underwent lumbar puncture and veni puncture in the context of studies on biomarkers for CAA, which were approved by the local medical ethics committee of the RUMC (2017–3810, 2017–3650). For the additional controls, CSF was used that remained after a clinical diagnostic workup (Ref No 2016–3011). Samples were used anonymously in accordance with the 1964 declaration of Helsinki. For the use and analysis of CSF and serum samples, written informed consent was obtained from all participants.
