Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval has been obtained from the Sierra Leone Ethics and Scientific Review Committee (SLESRC) and from the Human Research Protection Office at Washington University in St. Louis. Support has also been obtained from Pujehun and Rural Western Area District Health Officers. Each subject will be briefed on the study procedures and interventions. All participants who are 16 years of age or older will be able to consent for themselves as adults. If a participant who is younger than 16 wants to participate in the study, they will be required to have consent from a parent or guardian. Both verbal and written informed consent will be obtained from all enrollees. Those who are unable to sign or write their names will be asked to document consent using thumbprints.
