: The study was approved by the Makerere University School of Medicine Research Ethics Committee (SOMREC), Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) and Uganda National Drug Authority (NDA). A consultative approval was given by The National Committee of Health Research Ethics in Denmark. Written informed consent was obtained from all parents or legal guardians. Thorough information about the study and examinations was given orally and in writing, in English and <i>Luganda</i> (local language). Participation in the study was free of charge and children whose caregivers refused to participate in or withdrew from the study received the standard of care. All methods were performed in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations involving human research.
