: Prior to accessing the questionnaire, participants of the NCS user panel were presented with an information letter, outlining the study’s overarching objective, as well as the purpose and content of the survey. It was made clear to all study participants that they had the right to withdraw from the study at any point, and for any reason, without any negative consequences. Informed consent was obtained from each participant, who had to affirmatively check “I agree to participate” in order to proceed with the survey. To ensure anonymity, the survey did not collect any identifying information such as names, birth dates, or residential addresses of the participants. While the NCS may have the capability to link the survey answers to the panel members’ basic information, no identifiable data was made accessible to the researchers conducting the study. The research was conducted in compliance with the principles laid out in the Declaration of Helsinki (118) and adhered to the guidelines established by the NCS user panel. The study sought approval from the Regional Committees for Medical and Health Research Ethics (REK 272059), that determined that the study would not yield novel insights into health and disease. Consequently, it was not classified as health research in Norway, and thus, did not require approval from The Regional Committees for Medical and Health Research Ethics, in accordance with the following guidelines: “Examples of activities that do not require approval from REC: Use of other anonymous information and assessments of health conditions. Anonymous information means information in which names, personal identification numbers and other unique characteristics are removed so that data can no longer be linked to an individual (Sect. 2 of the Health Registry Act)” [, ]. Approval was therefore applied for and granted by the Norwegian Centre for Research Data (NSD) 660552.
