: Ethical procedures and questionnaires for the 2018 DHS were approved by ICF Institutional Review Board (IRB) in the United States and the National Ethics Committee in the Federal Ministry of Health of Nigeria. The ICF IRB in the United States and Nigeria ensured that the survey complied with the laws and norms of both countries. Written and signed informed consent were obtained from the participants before they participated in the survey. Information was collected anonymously and confidentially [CitationRef removed]. Furthermore, the NDHS Individual recode (IR) data file used in this study was de-identified. It is no longer possible to identify the participants because all personally identifiable information has been removed. Therefore, no further ethics approval was required because the study used secondary data. However, permission to use the data was obtained from Measure DHS/ICF International, USA.
