: This study and included experimental procedures were approved by Institution of Animal Care and the Ethics Committee of Shaanxi Institute of Zoology. The muscle samples used in this study were collected from dead takin in the wild. The main causes of death were diseases, fighting injuries, predation by black bears and leopards, and other non-human factors. The sample collection was permitted by the Management Division of Zhouzhi National Nature Reserve, Foping National Nature Reserve and Niubeiliang National Nature Reserve and the sampling process was followed by the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Wild Animals.
