: Ethical approval and research clearance for the study were provided by the Population Council’s Institutional Review Board (Protocol 1033), the Mildmay Uganda Research Ethics Committee (Approval No. REC REF 0611–2023), and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (Approval No. SS2265ES). Pupils were only eligible for participation in the intervention if they had parental permission, and if they additionally granted their own assent. Pupil participation remained voluntary, despite parental permission. All participants (and their caregivers, for minors) provided informed written consent/assent to participate.The study was conducted in accordance with the WHO Ethical and Safety Recommendations.
