: Ethical approval was obtained from the Ethics Committee of the study sites in the two countries. Nigeria: Kano (NHREC/28/01/2020/AKTH/EC/3618) and Ilorin (GHI/IRC/246/VOL.I/107); and DRC (UMJW/SGA/DEC/007/2023). Permissions was also obtained from the Heads of selected Departments, to be able to recruit patients into the study. An explicit explanation of the study was provided, after which the patients’ informed consent was obtained through their signatures or thumb printing. Data was encrypted and stored in pass-worded computers to prevent unauthorised access.
