: ACG is a Consultant Anaesthetist, Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Co-director of the Montagu Clinical Simulation Centre and has over 17 years’ experience in delivering simulation-based education. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Academic Unit of Medical Education, The Medical School, The University of Sheffield.SMcA is a Senior Lecturer and Course Director for the Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma and Masters in Medical Education, Centre for Medical Education, University of Dundee. He has a background in Psychology and is actively involved in the educational training of healthcare professionals in the UK and worldwide. His research interests are in the areas of assessment and professionalism.

: While no ethics approval for this manuscript was required, it is based on a research dissertation submitted to and accepted by the University of Dundee in partial fulfilment of the degree of Master of Medical Education (ACG) and supervised by SMcA. Ethics approval for this project was obtained from the University of Dundee Research Ethics Committee (UREC 15163).
