: Ethical approval for the study was obtained from Gulu University Research Ethics Committee (Ref. GUREC-062-20) and Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (Ref. HS983ES). Prior to the study, permission from the Local Council chairpersons (LC I, II and III) of each Subcounty, Parish and village was obtained. Approval was sought from regional administration in the study areas who were notified of the study’s objectives. The scope, possible benefits and risks of the study were explained to willing interviewees and Focus Group participants who signed consent forms after agreement. The prior-informed consent (PIC) form was translated into the local Acholi language. Identity of interviewees and Focus Group participants were protected via anonymisation.
