: Ethical approvals were obtained from World Health Organization Ethical Review Committee (WHO-ERC Regd. No. 0003531) and Ethical Review Board of Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC Ref. No. 3089). Past VL cases were interviewed and examined and blood samples were collected upon written informed consent from each participant.
