: In this paper, we report on the development and implementation of the SPA. PPI partners and doctoral students were involved in the design of SPA and its evaluation. All participants were SPA partners, were aware of the purpose of the evaluation, and how the findings would be used. This was a PPI activity, for which neither research ethics committee (REC) nor formal informed consent procedure is required according to Health Research Authority guidelines [CitationRef removed] in line with the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research. The work described in this paper is an evaluation of our patient and involvement service (the SPA), and REC approval or formal consent procedure is not required [CitationRef removed]. All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations, including the UK Standards for Patient and Public Involvement in Research, and specifically address standard six: Impact: Understand the changes, benefits and learning gained from the insights and experiences of patients, carers and the public [CitationRef removed].
