: Ethical approval was obtained from the University of Global Health Equity Institutional Review Board [Protocol #: 0057]. Permission for data collection was obtained from the Mayor of Rusizi District. Parents/guardians of children and livestock owners were asked to provide written informed consent. Children were asked to provide written informed assent. To protect confidentiality, participants were each assigned an Identification Code, with no names, telephone numbers or home addresses recorded. Only results aggregated across the study community were reported publicly. Each study participant received a toothbrush and toothpaste regardless of whether he/she completed all steps of the study.
