: Ethics approval for the study was obtained from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Health Research Ethics Committee (Approval Number: FHREC/2018/01/84/16–07-18) and the Ahmadu Bello University Committee on Animal Use and Care (Approval Number: ABUCAUC/2020/35). Permission was obtained from the management of the poultry farms and chicken markets before the commencement of the study. We assured participants of the confidentiality of all information obtained. All study participants who volunteered to participate in the study signed a written informed consent form detailing the purpose and benefits of the study before sample collection.
