Ethical review and approval were waived for this study since sampling of rectal swabs from healthy animals for laboratory examination is not considered animal experiment but a part of ordinary veterinary practices. These samples do not require ethical approvement, according to Danish and EU legislations (2010/63/EU, article 1:5: “practices not likely to cause pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm equivalent to, or higher than, that caused by the introduction of a needle in accordance with good veterinary practice”). The farmer approved the experiment and the sampling on the farm.
