: Ethics approval and consent to participate were not applicable for this study, as it involved the collection of common duckweed species from non-protected areas in Sri Lanka. According to national regulations, no specific permission or collection permit was required for the collection of these species. All experimental plants used in this study were collected in accordance with the guidelines of relevant institutional, national, and international policies on plant collection. The investigated species are not listed under any protected or endangered categories. The plant materials used in this study were identified and authenticated at the National Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya, where voucher specimens were deposited in the National Herbarium, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, for future reference and verification.
